Bad digestion? Discover the good habits for better sleep!
Nutritional balance and good digestion are 2 of the key factors that ensure adequate and restorative sleep.
Discover 5 good habits to develop and which ones to avoid to create an evening routine for your psychophysical wellbeing!
1. Drink plenty of water
The benefits of proper hydration are many: it speeds up your metabolism, regulates blood circulation, tones the body, and gets rid of toxins. But not only! Drinking half an hour before a meal activates the stomach and, during the meal, facilitates the digestion process.
Should you drink after a meal as well? Yes, drinking a glass of warm or hot water before getting into bed can be decisive for the correct assimilation of food. Its action helps our body absorb all the nutrients of food, contributing to the assimilation of the meal.
2. Avoid big meals and respect digestion time
You should prefer a light and balanced meal in the evening and wait at least 2 hours before bedtime to allow your body to properly complete the digestion phase.
One of the secrets to getting a good rest through nutrition is to prefer foods rich in melatonin, such as asparagus, tomatoes, onions, cabbage, oats, almonds, ginger, kiwi, grapes, and bananas, especially at dinner.
3. Activate digestion with movement
After dinner, don’t go straight to bed! Indeed, to start healthy digestion, take a 15/20 minute walk outdoors. This activity will activate your metabolism and favor the assimilation of nutrients.
However, be careful not to overdo it! Intensive workouts after dinner increase body temperature and hinder the natural release of melatonin, thus compromising a total and deep night’s rest.
4. Sleeping on the left side is much better!
As revealed in our article, sleeping on the left side favors the proper functioning of the intestine.
This position allows to speed up digestion and eliminate that typical feeling of heaviness and lumbar swelling.
5. The perfect evening routine includes the right mattress!
Physical wellbeing and food balance can guarantee adequate sleep only if accompanied by the right mattress. Do not underestimate your rest and choose the right one for you!
