Don’t “forget” to sleep to learn and speak better

Lack of regular sleep leads to memory problems, particularly concentration issues and reduced mathematical problem-solving abilities.

Don’t “forget” to sleep to learn and speak better

This problem is particularly felt among students who find themselves learning new concepts on a daily basis. But how can you improve your memory through sleep? Find out now by reading this article!

Regulating our “internal clock”

Nowadays, many students tend not to have regular sleep patterns because they don’t always go to bed at the same time and spend several hours on their smartphones before falling asleep.

The situation outlined above by recent research leads to two major problems:

  1. The display screen of the cell phones, which emits intermittent light, inhibits the production of melatonin, the hormone that signals to our body that it is time to sleep.
  2. By not always falling asleep at the same time, the circadian rhythm, which regulates our “internal clock,” is compromised, leading to periods of rebalancing that affect the quality of our sleep.

The REM phase is important for memory

But what benefits does more rest bring to students?

It is well known that the nighttime learning process occurs mainly during the REM (Rapid Eye Movement) phase, when the connections between new information learned during the day are consolidated.

Deep sleep is essential for promoting the REM phase and thus improving learning during sleep.

Sleep more = speak better

When the areas of the brain “associated with speech” are burdened due to sleep deprivation, the quality of speech is also affected. Your brain has difficulty remembering complex or fancy words when it is deprived of sleep. You tend to repeat simple phrases over and over again, which would not happen if you were well rested.

Your speech may be more boring for the listener because:

  • You tend to use the same words over and over again;
  • You tend to use the same tone of voice;
  • You tend to speak more slowly!

Is it really worth not paying attention to getting better sleep?

A quality mattress that’s student-proof

A mattress that is unsuitable for your physiological characteristics can cause problems with your posture at night, joint compression, and soreness when you wake up. It can also compromise your rest and have all the consequences that you have “learned” (if you weren’t already aware of them!) in this article.

Find out now how to improve your sleep and sharpen your memory. Find your ideal mattress now at your nearest specialist mattress, pillow, and bed base store!
